Taleigao is a village situated in the Tiswadi taluka. It is well known in Goa as the Goa University is situated here at the Taleigao Plateau. There are a lot of fields in the place and one of the main occupations of the villagers known as Taligaonkars here is farming. One can go to relax at the Vaiguinim beach that is situated nearby. One should also not miss the harvest festival of Taleigao that is held annually on 21st August.
During the earlier period the Taleigao village was well known, as on ascending the throne in Goa Afonso de Albuquerque honoured the villagers. They won this favour as they would sail at night and offer food to the Portuguese troops who were starving in Penha de France after 1510 when they were defeated at the hands of Adilshah.
The village of Taleigao also has a church that was built in 1544 known as the St. Michael church that celebrates its feast on 29th September. The villagers also celebrate Hindu festivals such as Datta Jayanti, Diwali, Ekadashi, Shigmo etc.
