Arpora is a place divided into two parts-a tiny beach spot and a village. This place has its own beauties for tourist as well as local people. The prime achievement is esteemed St. Joseph High School. A Pioneering Educational Institute for many illustrious Goan renowned as Alma Mater. This school in Arpora was built in the year 1886 by Brother William Robert Lyons, who had taken a refuge in Goa because he was suffering from incurable skin malady, which was later cured after having continuous spring waters in Candolim. This school has been outstanding in Educations as well as in Sports.
P.P. Shirodkar writes in his books about Hindus here that �a Disciple of Matsyendranath, Chouranguinath� was placed in a large Shrine at Arpora. The said Idol was taken to Assonora during the time of conversion. Today Sankavaddi is a main place for Hindu workship in Baga � Arpora.
St. Sebestian feast is the biggest feast for the Arpora Villagers every year in the month of January. This chapel is situated on the opposite side of grand Pinto Mansion. A huge hindu population also joints with Christian here to celebrate this feast, the crowded place here in Arpora is called Tintto. Hindus Dhalo celebrations also falls on the same night of Sebestian�s feast.
Arpora is famous for selling fresh fish such as prawns, tiger prawns, crabs, oysters etc. Fishermen takes their boats and go for fishing on middle of the beach and sell the fishes here in wholesale, thus you can enjoy tasty fish.
